Jamie Lee Curtis is an American actress. She was born on November 22, 1958 in Santa Monica, California, United States of America. Her parents are famous actor Tony Curtis and actress Janet Leigh. Her roots are Hungarian and Danish. She did not grew up with both her parents, as they divorced when she was still a child. In 1962, they separated and her mother remarried Robert Brandt. Form her parents’ marriage, Curtis has an older sister, named Kelly, who is also an actress. Her father remarried several times after the divorce and from his past relations, Curtis has 4 siblings: Alexandra, Ben, Allegra and Nicholas, who died due to a drug overdose nearly 20 years ago. In the childhood, the actress followed the classes of Westlake School, in Los Angeles. She continued her studies at Beverly Hills High School and then at Choate Rosemary Hall, the school from which she graduated. In 1976 she enrolled at the University of the Pacific, in California, but quit after just a semester, considering acting much more interesting than social work, the domain that she studied.
In 1984, Curtis married another actor, Christopher Guest. She then became Lady Haden Guest, as her husband became a baron after the death of his father. In 1986, the couple adopted their first child, a daughter named Annie. Ten years had passed until they wanted another child and in 1996, Curtis and Guest adopted a boy named Thomas. The actress is very involved in charity and she works with a few organizations that help women in need and also children affected by AIDS. In the 1990s, she had a serious problem with alcohol. After a routine cosmetic surgery, she started using also painkillers.
In 1999, she finally managed to became sober after a lot of struggle with addiction. As a blogger for Huffington Post, she revealed a few details and she confessed that getting rid of this problem is the biggest accomplishment in her life. When Michael Jackson died, Jamie Lee Curtis approached this subject and stated that the drugs helped her escape reality, too. She confessed that although the solution of the problem was very easy, it was extremely hard to give up using the narcotics. She did not offered details about the period of time in which she had this issue or about the treatment she followed, but she showed empathy for the deceased singer.
